Welcome to level 14 ### Welcome to level 14 By the end of this lesson, you can: * use lists the real Python way. * use for the real Python way. <aside class="notes"></aside>

Make a list in Python ### Make a list in Python If you want to make a list you now need square brackets. <iframe class="fragment" src="/render_code/14?code=numbers%20%3D%20%5B4%2C%208%2C%209%5D"></iframe> <aside class="notes"></aside>

Lists with words ### Lists with words If the list is with words instead of numbers, you will also have to use quotation marks. <iframe class="fragment" src="/render_code/14?code=favorite_animals%20%3D%20%5B%27dogs%27%2C%20%27sheep%27%2C%20%27parrots%27%2C%20%27kangaroos%27%5D"></iframe> <aside class="notes"></aside>

Get an element from the list. ### Get an element from the list. You can easily print an element from the list by putting the number of the element behind the name of the list: <iframe class="fragment" src="/render_code/14?code=winners%20%3D%20%5B%27Amber%27%2C%20%27Bryan%27%2C%20%27Clara%27%5D%0A%0Aprint%20%28winners%5B1%5D%2C%20%27won%20the%20first%20prize.%27%29%0Aprint%20%28winners%5B2%5D%2C%20%27won%20the%20second%20prize.%27%29%0Aprint%20%28winners%5B3%5D%2C%20%27won%20the%20third%20prize.%27%29"></iframe> <aside class="notes">Ask your students first what they think the output of the first part of the code is going to be. Then, run the code to see if they are correct.</aside>

Random element from a list ### Random element from a list As earlier, we also want to get a random element from list. <iframe class="fragment" src="/render_code/14?code=candidates%20%3D%20%5B%27Amber%27%2C%20%27Bryan%27%2C%20%27Clara%27%5D%0Awinner%20%3D%20candidates%5Brandom%5D%0Aprint%20%28%27Congratulations%2C%27%2C%20winner%2C%20%27you%20earned%20a%20prize.%27%29"></iframe> <aside class="notes">Run the code multiple times to show that it really gives a random name.</aside>

for in real Python ### for in real Python From now on, whenever you use the for keyword you will have to put a colon a the end of the line: <iframe class="fragment" src="/render_code/14?code=animals%20%3D%20dog%2C%20cat%2C%20blobfish%0Afor%20animal%20in%20animals%3A%0A%20%20%20%20print%20%28%27I%20love%20%27%20animal%29"></iframe> <aside class="notes">Make the students aware that this not only happens with the for keyword but with every line that is followed by a line with indentation. You will see this in next slides.</aside>

Debugging ### Debugging Let's debug this code! <iframe class="fragment" src="/render_code/14?code=print%20%28%27Welcome%20in%20at%20Hedyclothes%20online.%27%29%0Aitems%20%3D%20%5B%27Hedy%20T-shirts%27%2C%20%27Hedy%20jeans%27%2C%20%27Hedy%20socks%27%5D%0Aprices%20%3D%20%5B15%2025%2C%2010%5D%0A%0Atotal%20%3D%200%0A%0Afor%20i%20range%20%281%2C3%29%3A%0A%20%20%20%20number%20%3D%20%28%27How%20many%20%27%2C%20items%5Bi%5D%2C%20%27%20would%20you%20like%20to%20buy%3F%27%29%0A%20%20%20%20total%20%3D%20total%20%2B%20prices%2Anumber%0A%0Aif%20total%20%3C%2050%3A%0Atotal%20%3D%20%2B%2010%0Aprint%20%28You%20have%20to%20pay%2010%20extra%20for%20shipment.%29%0A%0Apresents%20%3D%20%5Bearrings%2C%20sunglasses%2C%20earplugs%20%5D%0Aelse%0A%20%20%20%20print%20%27You%20get%20free%20shipping%20and%20a%20little%20present.%27%0A%20%20%20%20present%20%3D%20present%20random%0A%20%20%20%20print%20%27Your%20present%20is%20a%20pair%20of%27%2C%20present%0A%0Aprint%20%28Thanks%20for%20shopping%20at%20Hedyclothes.%20Please%20pay%2C%20total%2C%29"></iframe> <aside class="notes">Debug this code together.</aside>
