Welcome to level 9 ### Welcome to level 9 Welcome to Hedy Advanced! In the previous levels you have learned the basics of computing! Now it's time to move on to write more intricate programs and learn some harder keywords. By the end of this lesson, you can: * repeat multiple lines of code * use indentation properly with repeat if and else <aside class="notes"></aside>

repeat keywords in level 8 ### repeat keywords in level 8 The repeat keyword used to look like this. <iframe class="fragment" src="/render_code/9?code=repeat%205%20times%20print%20%27Help%21%27"></iframe> <aside class="notes">Remind the students that they learned how to use the repeat keyword in the previous level. You could only repeat one line of code. This level you'll learn how to repeat multiple lines of code.</aside>

repeat keywords now ### repeat keywords now What do you think the output will be? <iframe class="fragment" src="/render_code/9?code=repeat%205%20times%0A%20%20%20%20print%20%27Hello%20everyone%27%0A%20%20%20%20print%20%27This%20will%20be%20printed%205%20times%27"></iframe> <aside class="notes">First let your students predict the output again. Then explain: In this level you can repeat multiple lines of code. To do this you must tell the computer which lines belong together and should be repeated. You do this by using indentation. Use 4 spaces (or one tab) at the beginning of each line that you want to repeat.</aside>

repeat keywords now ### repeat keywords now And what would this output look like? <iframe class="fragment" src="/render_code/9?code=repeat%203%20times%0A%20%20%20%20print%20%27Hello%21%27%0Aprint%20%27We%20are%20done%20repeating%21%27"></iframe> <aside class="notes">ask the students which lines they think will be repeated and run the code. Explain: If you want to, you can continue after the `repeat` keyword without indentation. The lines that do not start with indentation will not be repeated.</aside>

if and else before ### if and else before What will the if and else keywords look like with indentation? <iframe class="fragment" src="/render_code/9?code=if%20name%20is%20Hedy%0Aprint%20%27nice%27%0Aelse%0Aprint%20%27boo%21%27"></iframe> <aside class="notes">This is what the if and else have always looked like. What will they look like now that we can use indentation?</aside>

if and else now ### if and else now These are the `if` and `else` keywords now. <iframe class="fragment" src="/render_code/9?code=name%20%3D%20ask%20%27What%20is%20your%20name%3F%27%0Aif%20name%20is%20Hedy%0A%20%20%20%20print%20%27Welcome%20Hedy%27%0Aelse%0A%20%20%20%20print%20%27Welcome%20programmer%21%27"></iframe> <aside class="notes">Show the students that using indentation isn't just giving you the extra work of adding a tab, but it is very useful. Demonstrate how you can now type multiple lines after an if or else instead of just one by adding some lines of code to the example.</aside>

Stopping the indentation ### Stopping the indentation Predict the output <iframe class="fragment" src="/render_code/9?code=name%20%3D%20ask%20%27What%20is%20your%20name%3F%27%0Aif%20name%20is%20Hedy%0A%20%20%20%20print%20%27Welcome%20Hedy%27%0Aelse%0A%20%20%20%20print%20%27Welcome%20programmer%21%27%20%0Aprint%20%273..2..1..%20Start%20programming%21%27"></iframe> <aside class="notes">Let your students predict the output of the code and instruct them to take a careful look at the indentation. Just like with the `repeat` keyword, you can stop using indentation and the lines will always be shown. Not just if the statement is true. So, the lines without indentation are not dependent on the if or else statement.</aside>

Debugging ### Debugging Let's debug this code! <iframe class="fragment" src="/render_code/9?code=print%20%27HedyWheels%20bus%20tickets%20machine%27%0Azone_1%20%3D%20Town%20Hall%2C%20Library%2C%20Campus%2C%20Market%20Place%0Azone_2%20%3D%20Swimming%20Pool%2C%20Skate%20Park%2C%20Mall%2C%20Airport%0Adestination%20%3D%20%27Where%20do%20you%20want%20to%20go%3F%27%0Aif%20destination%20in%20zone%201%0Aprint%20destination%20%27is%20in%20zone%201%27%0Aprice%20%3D%203%20euros%0A%20%20%20%20if%20destination%20is%20zone_2%0Aprint%20destination%20%27is%20in%20zone%202%27%0Aprice%20%3D%206%0Aticket_types%20%3D%20ask%20%27Press%201%20for%20a%20single%20use%20ticket.%0APress%202%20for%20a%20round%20trip%20ticket%3A%27%0Aif%20ticket_type%20%3D%201%0Aprint%20%27You%20chose%20a%20single%20use%20ticket%27%0Aelse%0A%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20print%20You%20chose%20a%20round%20trip%20ticket%27%0Aprice%20%2A%202%0Aprint%20%27That%20will%20be%20%27%20price%20%27%20euros%20please%27"></iframe> <aside class="notes">Debug this code with your students.</aside>
